From the Boy Scout camp hikers can take the western or right fork of a National Forest trail.
Pico Blanco Trail to Little Sur River [CLOSED] is a 18 mile out and back trail located near Carmel-by-the-Sea, California that features a river and is rated as moderate.
All totaled, we hiked 20 miles … The eastern trailhead is at Pico Blanco Boy Scout Camp. Some trails or park services may be closed this weekend so check with local authorities before heading out. It is located at the far northwestern end of Los Padres National Forest, a few miles south of Monterey, and splits the north and south forks of the Little Sur River. Length 13.6 mi Elevation gain 3,326 ft Route type Out & Back He told us that since the landslide swept out the trail(forming an impassable 30-40ft cliff of loose, rocky soil) hikers could only continue by cutting back and crossing the river. It took about 7 hours while doing some clearing. It climbs Launtz Ridge 11 miles (18 km) to a fork in the trail, where hikers can take the right fork to U.S. Forest Service campgrounds including Pico Blanco Campground, Pico Blanco Camp, and the Coast Road, or veer left 1.1 km (0.68 mi) to Launtz Creek Camp, Most of the trail is exposed to the sun so prepare for that. He informed us that since the trail is a forest service trail on private property, having someone repair/reroute the trail probably won’t happen any time soon.
