The Mokulua Islands have a calm & tranquil feel that make them one of the most beautiful places to paddle to on the entire island.The best part is that you can hang out there for the day, pack a lunch, & even do some tide pool exploring, cliff jumping, or snorkeling. As we walked back around to the front of the island where we had left our canoes we could see a ferocious storm brewing over Kailua and it was headed our way. Banyan trees and giant boulders line the trail that leads to the watering hole. Rocks are moving below waterfalls, sand level and depths of the ocean are changing. At the end of the trail is Waimano Falls. Parking is highly regulated on the weekends, but there is lots of free parking in the neighborhood if you go early on a weekday. It also never hurts to bring along a partner — not just for safety purposes but you’ll want to have some memorable photos as well. It’s a playground for the adrenaline hunters and for those who push their limits. Floating next to a cliff at Laie Point trying to scramble out of the water is not where you want to be during January.Alan Davis Beach is a short detour from the popular Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail. For instance, these birds have desalination glands, webbed feet, & can even turn off half of their brain while flying to get much needed rest. The cliffs are similar to The west side of Oahu is the least explored area by tourists and probably one of the nicest regions of the island. The water here is quite dark so be sure to check this one for rocks and debris under the surface!Waimea Falls is a beautiful nature walk just behind Waimea Bay Beach. A 2-mile trail is riddled with tree roots and slippery sections but leads down to an epic cliff jump spot.
The best time to make the cliff jump is in the summer time because the waves on the north shore of Oahu get crazy big during the winter. Kayak and SUP rentals/tours are available Mon-Saturday. Generally, the water is clear enough that you can see right through it.Always something to look out for while paddling or kayaking here. Try timing before sets and get off your vessel quickly when you reach the island. The cliffs and waterfalls throughout the island make the perfect spot for cliff diving.
