Stirling Council run a competition to see who will be lucky and sit next to Santa for the parade and to have the honor of doing the switch on. This will be used to treat the priority areas of Stirling’s road network during freezing temperatures or heavy snow, with the remainder of the roads being treated as the weather conditions and capacity dictate. A package of transformational changes to waste collection services across the Stirling Council area were approved at a meeting of Stirling Council today (30 June).
Active Stirling is to continue to run Stirling Council’s leisure facilities – but faces a £430,000 cut in its funding. The rain couldn't dampen spirits as the first wave of runners in the Great Stirling Castle Run left the start line. Stirling Council has issued Community Councils with snow shovels and safety vests so local volunteers can take action to help vulnerable neighbours and other residents if conditions become severe. That said the Council covers more than 1,000 kilometres of road and we can’t treat it all at the same time so our officers will focus on getting our gritting team on the busiest roads first.“We’ll also be posting any information about disruptions to travel and bin collections on our website and social media channels so I’d ask residents to join myStirling or like and follow our Facebook and Twitter accounts.“I would also ask that our residents be neighbourly by checking on older or vulnerable neighbours and helping less able neighbours to clear their paths.”Residents can get ready for winter by checking the Council website to identify where their nearest grit bin is, and see if their street is likely to receive regular gritting so they know what to expect (http://my.stirling.gov.uk/gritters).Trunk roads and motorways which run through the Council area are treated by both BEAR Scotland and AMEY.Community councils and local volunteers also play an important role in the Council’s winter response. The Council’s winter maintenance service is now up and running, with 7,000 tonnes of salt in stock to help respond to severe weather. Ourexplains more about how we use your data, and your rights. Labour and Conservative members on Stirling Council have agreed to run the local authority together. A few years ago the Trust successfully raised over £600,000 towards the refurbishment of the Community Centre and Drop In Centre as well as negotiated with Stirling Council to have the Centre ownership transferred from the Council to the Trust.

Efforts to recruit a new board will get underway soon. The council announced the new set-up on Thursday as a consultation over a proposed funding cut for Active Stirling was coming to an end.As part of the priority-based budgeting options under consideration, Active Stirling will lose £30,000 of funding in the 12 months from April this year, and £100,000 in each of the four financial years which follow. If those cuts are agreed, it means Active Stirling will lose around 30 per cent of the £1.397 million it currently get from the council for running facilities such as the Peak and Stirling Sports Village and sports programmes.Convenor of Stirling Council’s community planning and regeneration committee Chris Kane, said: “This is a great step towards a renewed and reinvigorated partnership between Stirling Council and Active Stirling.“We both want to maximise the participation, health and overall wellbeing benefits of sport and physical activity across our communities and our local economy.”He added: “It will not be up to the council to run Active Stirling.
